Wedding Party!

I went to Niall and his wife’s wedding party last Sunday. It was a really nice party! It wasn’t too formal. It was relaxing, which is really my cup of tea.

2/10　Rage Against The Machine in　幕張

2月10日日曜日幕張で、Rage Against the MachineのLiveに行ってきました！

行くまでは結構ぐちゃぐちゃになる気マンマンで行ったのですが、車の渋滞にはまり、着いた頃には開演まであと何分？みたいな感じだったので、Aブロックの左真ん中位である程度空間がある所で踊ってました♪

あっという間のLiveでしたが、楽しかったです！！

男性の割り合いが多く、トイレに行ったときに、いつも並ぶ女子トイレはガラガラで、男子トイレが列になって並んでいたのが、印象的でした。

オーディエンスも思い思いにみんな音に合わせて踊っていて楽しい空間でした！

Liveに行かなくても普通に生活を送っていますが、行かなきゃ味わえないあの空間が私は大好きです。

今年は1月2日にRipslymeを観に武道館へ行き、前から2列目だったので、ステージが近くてとても楽しかったです。

日本のHiphopはあまり聞かないのですが、友達の家で彼らのDVDを見たときに、楽しい人達だなと思って、Liveに行き始めました。エンターテイナーなshowでいつも楽しませてくれるので、いつ行ってもHappyな気分になれます。個人的には[FIVE]や[TOKYO CLASSIC]が好きです。

そしてその数日後の1月9日にCoccoのLiveを見に行ったのも、日本武道館でした。

活動停止前に彼女のLiveに行ったことがなく、活動停止になってしまってとても後悔していたので、Liveは生物なので、行きたいアーティストのLiveは可能な限り行きたいと思ってます。

個人的には活動停止前の胸に刺さるようなCoccoの曲が好きなのですが、復活後の伸びやかなCoccoも新たな魅力だと思います。

Weekend

I had a (very late!) wedding party at the weekend in Ueno. It was good fun and good to see people from the English Village as well as meet some of my wife’s friends for the first time. I attempted a speech in Japanese which I think was just about okay-it wasn’t helped by me worrying I was going to lose my voice. I had a really sore throat but think cold medicine might have disguised it! There were also some  of my ‘interesting’ haircuts on display from the 1980’s in the slideshow, which I wasn’t expecting!

Nightmare!

Yesterday, I had to go to Odaiba on business by car but when I was driving back to Kinshicho from Odaiba, I completely lost the way! Every time I tried to change direction, I found myself backing the same wrong road and I got into a panic!!!

Normally it takes only 20 minutes from Odaiba to Kinshicho but it took 1 hour and 20 minutes for me! Yes, actually I have no sense of direction!

I was so tired out!

Kinshicho Valentine’s event!

2月16日（土曜日）１９：００～２１：００まで、バレンタインイベントをイングリッシュヴィレッヂ錦糸町で行います！

イングリッシュヴィレッヂバンドが生演奏が皆様をWelcomeします！イギリス人の先生、MichaelとNiallもみんなに交じりますので、英語を話す緊張も忘れ、楽しい時間を過ごせる事間違いないです！

それでは、バンド紹介は英語でします！

On keyboard: Our principal Neil. He’s been working on making music so hard! His hobby is playing the piano and reading. He started playing the piano when he was a child. I think he’s a great pianist but he’s the sort of person who prefers to help behind the scenes!

On guitar: Hiro!!! His real job is solid work! He’s a really fantasitic guitarist. He’s just beyond belief! His technique is like that of a professional, I think. He’s a very interesting man. He’s a great guitarist but at the same time, he likes going fishing! But his main job is solid work!

On keyboard: Misato. She’s the English Village receptionist. Her hobby is going to  rock concerts and beauty therapy. She also can tell you a lot about fashion! She’s a marvellous pianist too. She graduated from a music university. Oh, actually, her mum is a piano teacher! By the way, she’s a realist. She’s just the opposite of me so she supports me in many ways.

On bass: Shuhei. He’s a graphic designer. If I have to describe him in one word, he’s very unique. He admires “SAMURAI” sprit so he wears a kimono or Yukata when he’s at home. However, he plays football very well!!! He’s a very interesting man.

On vocals: It’s me. Mina! I do take care not to catch cold before the parties! Oh, I’ll intruduce myself. I’m the deputy principal of the English Village and I write mail magazines. My hobby is sports. I’m always “GENKI”!! When you feel down, you’d better come and see me. I’ll give you some energy!

Kimuchi!!!!!

  Look at this picture! This is some hand-made Kimuchi!

The mother of one of our “Kids’ course” students in Kinshicho made it with a Korean lady.

She kindly gave some to us. I ate it last night and tonight. It was delicious!

Tommyがやってきた！！

数年前にイングリッシュヴィレッヂ錦糸町校で働いていたTommyが遊びに来てくれました！！

 今はイギリスのニューキャッスルの病院でコンピュータープログラマーをしているとの事で、数年ぶりに会っても全然変わらないナイスなTommyでした。

当時働いていた時も、Tommyはとても優しく、多くの生徒さんから慕われいました。週に1回日本語のレッスンをとても熱心に受けていて上達ぶりに驚いたのを覚えています。私達のテキストブックは全て手作りなのですが、彼の空き時間に一緒に手伝ってくれた事もよく覚えています。今まで手伝ってくれたのはTommyだけだったので、今でもとても感謝しています。

イギリスから日本に来た時に、当時働いていた男性スタッフが緑茶をトライしてみてとTommyに渡し、その緑茶を飲んだTommyが渋い表情をし、微妙な反応だったのに、その次の年には気付いたら自分から緑茶を美味しいと飲んでいた事などいろいろ思い出しました。

そして、うちのカフェMary Pearson’s Kitchenのハーブティーセットを堪能してくれました♪

ハーブティーはTommyチョイスの「Elderflower Dawn」。

ハーブティーもスコーンも美味しい！と笑顔満載のTommyでした。

【解説】

★主語＋have + been + ・・・ing＝現在完了進行形です。

　過去から続いている事が今でも続いているか、最近になって

　その事が止まったり、終わった時に使う文法です。

　＊recentlyとlatelyは

　　現在完了形もしくは現在完了進行形の時にほとんど使います。

★lately＝最近

 
★under the weather＝気分がすぐれない（これは熟語です！）

★recently＝最近

♪雑学を学ぼう！♪

みなさん、英語であいさつする時、“お元気ですか？”って決まり文句のよ

うに聞くのはご存知ですよね？この時の答え方なのですが、多くの日本人の

方で自分が少し体調悪いとか風邪を引いている時に“元気じゃないのよ”と

答える人が多いですよね。

確かに事実を言っているのですが、“お元気ですか？”とは決まり文句の挨

拶なので、もし、ここで“元気じゃない”と答えると、質問したイギリス人

があまり親しくなかったりとかすると、ちょっとびっくりします。なので、

“お元気ですか？”と聞かれたら、“はい、元気です。”と答えてください。

要するに、そのシチュエーションによってですが、ただあいさつで聞いてい

る“How are you?”もあるということです。

もし、自分の体調のことを言いたい時は親しい友だちか家族だけに言った方

が良いと思います。

Let’s learn something interesting!

Hello, everybody!

You knew people asked “How are you?” as a fixed greeting question,

didn’t you? A lot of Japanese people answer “Not very well”or “So so”

when they don’t feel great or have got a cold.

These are true answers but “How are you?” is a fixed greeting, so if

you give these answers to English people you don’t know well, they

are surprised! Because of that, you’d better say “I’m fine, thank

you”. To sum up, in some situations “How are you?”is just a greeting.

If you want to talk about your health condition properly, you’d better

talk to only your friends or family.

【覚えておきたいフレーズ】

A lot of Japanese people answer “Not very well”or “So so”

when they don’t feel great or have got a cold.

＝多くの日本人の方で自分が少し体調悪いとか風邪を引いている時に

　“元気じゃないのよ”と答える人が多いですよね。

★not ＋ very ＋ 形容詞＝あまり～ではありません。

＊日本語もそうですが、自分が言っていることがきつすぎないように、

“あまり～だよね”とか言いますよね。例えば、自分がほんとは“やな

奴”と思っているのに、友達に“彼ってどんな人？”って聞かれると、

やな奴だよってストレートにはなかなか言いませんよね？要するに言葉

を和らげるための“あまりvery”なのです。

（例文１）

This book isn’t very good.

＝この本はあまり良くありません。

（例文２）

The weather wasn’t very nice, when I played golf yesterday.

＝天気はあまりよくありませんでした。

snow

It was absolutely freezing today, wasn’t it? When I was driving from Kinshicho to Funabashi tonight, it was snowing quite hard so it was quite scary. I hope the snow hasn’t settled tomorrow morning.

Mary’s comforter!

 After doing some paper work, I wanted to refresh my brain and I had some Mary’s comforter which is the name of one of our herb teas.

It refreshed my brain! I’m fond of its slightly minty taste!
