Stiff!

Hello, everybody!

some poeple around me have got a slipped disk! I think it’s because of the cold weather!

I think we should stretch qite often every day, otherwise our bodies tend to be stiff because of this cold weather!

カラオケで歌った曲は・・・

日曜日の雪の日、皆さんはどこで何をしてましたか？

私は音楽を通じて知り合った友達6人とカラオケに行きました。5時間も。

結構雪が降っていたので、6人集まった事がすごいと思い、その内2人は傘を持っていなかったことにはサスガだと思いました。

そんな6人が歌った曲はだいたいこんな感じ・・・

いや～、このメンバーだから全員好きに歌ってましたが、きっと違う人達だったら、この選曲はしてない事でしょう。って言うくらいものすご～くマニアックな曲まで歌ってましたから。

声を出すということは良いストレス発散ですよね。

I’m off for a magnificently lazy weekend (& to brush up on my pancake recipe!)-I hope everyone has a magnificent weekend, lazy or otherwise! (It’s also too cold but if we get snow I’ll be happy in a nostalgigic way).

ハッシュドビーフとハヤシライス

昨日とてもお腹が空いていて、お昼何を食べようかなぁと思っていたので、生徒さんに質問しました。

Misato「今日お昼何食べました？」

生徒さん「昨日の夕ご飯で作ったハッシュドビーフ」

別の生徒さん「ハッシュドビーフとハヤシライスって何が違うの？」

Misato「・・・なんでしょう・・・」

生徒さん「トマトを加えた感じがハッシュドビーフなような・・・」

そこで気になって調べました。

ハヤシライスの名前の由来にはいろいろな説がありますが、次の２つが有力説と言われています。１つは、「牛肉をこま切れにする」という意味のハッシュドビーフがライスの上にのっているのが略されて、ハヤシライスになったという説。もう１つは、丸屋商社（現在の書店『丸善』）の創業者・早矢仕有的（はやしゆうてき）という名の人が考案した料理だからという説です。

・有名レストラン「上野精養軒」のコックだった林さんが考案した料理だからハヤシライス。

★advice＝アドバイス

　＊スペルに気を付けて下さい。

　　名詞は “advice” で、動詞は “advise” です。

★I see what you mean, but～＝気持ちは分るけど、

　A：It’s a pain having to move offices.

　 ＝会社の引越しは、本当に苦痛だよ。

　B：I see what you mean,

　　 but the new place is much better than this one.

★talk to＝〈人）と話す

　＊一般的に、

　　イギリス英語では、（人）と話す “talk to” 。

　　アメリカ英語では “talk with” です。

みなさん、ルーシーが働いているスクールがカフェをオープンするって言った

事を覚えていますか？そのカフェは昨日、オープンしたんです！

ルーシーは楽しんで仕事をしています！先週はその雰囲気とコーヒーについて

書きましたよね？今週はそこのスコーンについて書きたいと思います。

そのスコーンは秘密のレシピで作られる伝統的なイギリスのスコーンです。そ

うです。実際にそのレシピは学長のお母さんに提供して頂いたのです。学長の

お母さんはまた、私がイギリスにいた時にスコーンの作り方をしっかり教えて

くれたのです。後に、彼女はカフェで、どのコーヒー豆を使うかを決め、今、

いろんな種類のお茶を調べている最中です。

Let’s learn something interesting!

Hello, everybody! Do you remember that I mentioned that the school Lucy

works for is opening a cafe? It opened yesterday!

Lucy’s been enjoying working there! I wrote about the atomosphere and

coffee last week, didn’t I? This week, I’d like to talk about the scones.

They’re traditional English scones made to a secret recipe. Well, actually,

the recipe was supplied by the school principal’s mother. She also taught

me how to make scones properly when I was in England. Later, she decided

what coffee beans we should use and she’s now checking out different kinds

of tea.

If you come to the school cafe, you can see a picture of her hanging on

the wall. Why don’t you drop in sometime and taste my home-made scones?

Pancakes (Slight Return)

& amazingly easy to do a double post if you’re as low tech as me-what is this intra-web thing anyway? But yes, pancakes… a mixture of flour,eggs,bit of salt,butter and milk and delicious with lemon and sugar or Maple Syrup. You’re also supposed to toss the pancake in the air while cooking it and catch it in the frying pan but this is beyond my dexterity nine times out of ten. As is making a successful post so I’m going to quit while I’m ahead.

I’m looking forward to cooking pancakes next Tuesday (Feb 5th-‘Shrove Tuesday’, I think!). They’re very easy to make

Kaijin lunch event

There was a lunch event in our Kaijin school today. Neil cooked some English dishes for the students who attended. They told me that their image of English dishes was that they were not so delicious but they discovered that that image was wrong! Well done, Neil, because you are a good cook!

I missed the chance to take a photo when they were eating some dishes!

Smoky Java(coffee)

I had some of our smoky Java coffee yesterday. I sometimes have it at home but I don’t make it the proper way. I use a normal coffee- maker but I had some of the proper staff at our cafe yesterday. The taste was really fantastic! It really suits the cold weather, I think.

There’s a lunch event in Kaijin tomorrow Neil’s making a delicious English lunch from the starter to a cup of coffee.
