ドーナツ屋さんのポイントでこんなユニークな台所用スポンジを入手しました。

見た目もかわいい上に使い勝手もなかなか良くてとても気に入りました！

English Village Background Music

Several years ago, I came across a website containing the scores of many British folk melodies, some of which I harmonized, arranged and recorded on my electronic piano. I copied the music files to floppy disk and also saved the recordings on an MD. My plan was to have the pieces transferred to CD and then play them as background music in the school. Things didn’t work out. My piano disk drive and MD player both broke down and MDs became obsolete. It seemed all was lost and my efforts, such as they were, had been a waste of time. I felt disappointed, to put it mildly. Anyway, I happened to come across the old floppy disk recently and, for some reason or other, shoved it into the dead disk drive of my piano. Picture my amazement when the moribund thing came back to life. I grabbed my tiny mp3 recorder and, somewhat riskily, connected its microphone socket to the headphone socket of my piano. The recordings that resulted can be heard here:

The sound is rather “hissy”, which, given the recording circumstances, is hardly surprising, but I’m pleased the pieces survived at least. I’ve also uploaded a simple composition of my own called Little Drum, which is the “theme tune” for the English Village website.

Moving House

Always convoluted/confusing-am now going through the ‘Can’t remember where I packed things’ phase. But it could also lead to another demonstration of my legendary bookshelf making skills-I definitely didn’t inherit the practical/DIY gene in my family.

Ganbarimasho!

As you know, Neil and Niall are from England, which doesn’t really have earthquakes.

Actually, it has tiny tremors about once a decade, but they are usually so small that most people don’t even notice them.

However, Neil and Niall are bravely facing this very hard situation!!! I’m sure they are in a complicated frame of mind as their families in England are worried about their situations and are hearing a variety of scary foreign news. But they are working as usual and trying to make their students feel relaxed!

I really respect them! I really do my best for them! And all our staff are cooperating with each other!

みなさん、ご存知の通り、Neilと Niallはイギリス出身です。イギリスでは、ほとんど地震がありません。実際、小さい揺れが１０年に１回ぐらいです。でも、感じられない位の揺れなので、たいていは、気づきません。でも、そのような国から来たNeilとNiallは勇敢にもこの大変な状況に立ち向かっています！絶対に彼らの心境は私達よりも複雑だと思います。彼らのイギリスの家族が心配していたり、海外の色々な怖いニュースも耳に入ってきたりするわけですから。

でも、彼らはいつも通りに働いて、生徒さんをリラックスさせようと頑張っています！私はそんな彼らを尊敬します！私ができる限りの事を彼らにしています！そして、スタッフ全員で力を合わせています！

Terrible Week

I hope everybody and everybody’s families are all okay. Last Friday, alongside many other people, I discovered it’s an 18.6 km walk from Kinshicho to Funabashi and it takes me four and a half hours to do it!

震災の被害はただならない規模で、悲惨な映像に愕然とさせられます。
